1953 Studebaker Commander Starliner Coupe

Another great "My Ride" story.

"I bought this ride in the fall of 2010 because I wanted to indulge my lifelong passion for everything automotive and because I (and many observers) consider the Studebaker Commander Starliner to be the most beautiful American car of its era. Originally conceived as a concept car by the design studio of Raymond Loewy, the coupe received so much attention that Studebaker decided to make it a production vehicle."

Studebaker Love Story - 1953 Champion Starlight Coupe

“I’ve been a Studebaker man since I was 16,” says 50-year-old Kevin Fonseca, who was seven when the last Studebaker came down the production line in Hamilton, Ont.

Fonseca’s initiation into the ranks of true Stude believers came when he inherited a ’65 four-door sedan. It was my grandfather’s last car, and my first,” he says. “I still have most of it.”

1953 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe

I'm not a rodder, but this is a fine car.

"The cream-colored engine compartment sets off a small-block Chevy decked out in dark green. Gary got a deal on the seasoned, Quadrajet-fed 350, and then made it even better with block-hugger headers, Olds Rocket valve covers, and tasteful detailing. A Speedway Motors aluminum radiator and electric fan keep things cool. Heartland Transmissions in Kearney rebuilt the GM 200-4R overdrive automatic."

Studebaker Meet-Up - Sacramento - Photographs

The Karel Staple chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club is exhibiting a half-dozen members' cars at the Towe Auto Museum in Sacramento, CA, including a 1951 Studebaker Champion and a 1950 Studebaker Commander.

Another great set of Studebakers were in the parking lot during today's Karel Staple Chapter meeting. Photographs of some of these vehicles, including a Studebaker truck, Champion and Golden Hawk are below.
