"This mascot naming contest is open to children ages 7 to 12. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on June 3rd, 2011. Prizes will be given for first, second, and third place winners, which will be announced on June 13th on the Museum's website. All entries become the property of the Studebaker National Museum and may be used for any purpose. One entry per child, please."

"Got an idea for what a new Studebaker would look like? Enter the Studebaker National Museum's 2010 Design Contest! Deadline for entries is October 22, 2010."

"Original design submissions can be created through any artistic medium available, including but not limited to pencil, ink, crayon, computer-aided drawing software, or a combination of several techniques.

Compose your design essay on a separate sheet of paper in 100 words or fewer. Explain your design choices, including details on issues such as safety, aerodynamics, efficiency, or anything else that makes your design unique."

A Quick Look Inside the Studebaker National Museum

Studebaker Carriages - Presidents

The Studebaker National Museum is featuring eight vehicles as part of its "National Treasures" exhibition. There are many carriages and one automobile.

Presidents Arthur, McKinley, Harrison, and Hayes all rode in Studebaker automobiles. President Harrison's carriage cost $1,700 - a princely sum back in the day.

Andrew Beckman, an archivist at the museum, says the exhibit was funded by a “Save America’s Treasures” grant they received several years ago. He says the vehicles range in age from the 1820s to the 1900s.

Studebaker - Boom and Bust - South Bend, Indiana

The sad story of prosperity and then decline.

"In its heyday, the west side was the bustling center of life for many workers at the Studebaker Corporation who made their homes on the west side and also supported neighborhood businesses. But after Studebaker Corporation closed, the west side began its decline."

"Despite its challenges, Davis says there are many bright spots in the 2nd District, such as the Studebaker National Museum, Center for History and a future Civil Rights Heritage Center at Indiana University South Bend. Davis says the Monroe Park neighborhood near downtown also shows a lot of promise."
